Being a millionaire is a side effect of a unique mindset. A mindset that drives the decision making process by more than just the common sense.

I have listed below a combination of traits that I rarely see in people. But when I do see them, I can predict a millionaire in the making.

Be Relentless & Be An Example

Don’t stop trying till you achieve your goal. It is ok to modify your goal according to a change in circumstances, but the relentless mindset and perseverance are what distinguishes success from failure.

Millionaire Mindset

Children don’t stop crying till they get what they want. They generally end up getting it. Market research shows that girls aged between 8 and 13 years influence their parent to spend over $170 billion each year in the US.

I am not asking you to be child-like demanding. But you should be demanding yourself to be your best and set an example so you can demand the same from your team. Make it very clear that your win benefits them equally. Otherwise it can be perceived as exploitation.  And when your they see you holding yourself to high standards, they know that they also have to make the grade to succeed.

The relentless mindset means you:

  • Don’t use excuses
  • Don’t compromise (unless it harms your family or faith)
  • Don’t get distracted

Break the social status quo and pounce at your goal like a raging bull and inspire others around you to do the same. Your actions speak much louder than your words.

Surround yourself with awesome role models

Be selective as to who you hang out with. Surround yourself with people who are smarter and more experienced than you are.

It is crucial to have a role model. A role model will raise your standards. A role model will not let you get complacent. Finding a role model or mentor will spark your mind because they are playing the game at a higher level than you are.

  • If you hang around five confident people, you will be the sixth.
  • If you hang around five millionaires, you will be the sixth.
  • If you hang around five broke people, you will be the sixth.

It’s inevitable.

Such a simple concept, yet most people don’t do it. Most people don’t become millionaires either!

Embrace obstacles and leverage them to your advantage

The moment you go after your biggest goals, obstacles will show up. They test your character and determination and separate the weak from the strong, the serious from the casual and the confident from the insecure.

So be strong, be serious and be confident, especially when the odds are against you. With this mindset you can face any obstacle and overcome it. But do it with careful consideration and a cool head, because you can think better when you are calm.

Carefully analyze your obstacle. See it as an opportunity to help you grow as a person. What qualities can you develop? What creative ways can you even use the obstacle to your advantage?

98% of startups die before they get to their first level of funding. Why? Because the cofounders give up in the face of obstacles or give in to a so called secure job offer. This is the mediocre mentality. Avoid this safe mentality.  Keep trying till you know you tried everything possible unless the viability of your goal itself changes.

Try Hard, Try Fast, Try Smart

Just Keep Trying

Be genuinely helpful, even if in a very small way

The most successful people I know – both financially and in other ways – are amazingly helpful. They understand that their success is ultimately based on the success of the people around them.

So I ask you to genuinely make an effort, even go out of your way to make other people successful: employees, customers, vendors or even friends of friends.

The effect of word of mouth is greatly magnified by this process. Your reputation grows and you meet incredible people who can translate to either your customers or employees – people who can take you to places you couldn’t even imagine.

Serve a million people – and serve them incredibly well – and the money will follow.

Do one thing better

Pick one thing you’re already better at than most people. Focus on Just-One-Thing. Become maniacally focused on honing that one thing.

Work… Train… Learn… Practice… Evaluate… Refine.

Be ruthlessly self-critical, not in a masochistic way, but to ensure you continue to work to improve every aspect of that one thing. This is how you become one of the top 5% of any field.

Financial success is inevitable if you are one of the best in what you do (of course it helps if you pick something to be great at that the world also values – and will pay for).

Conclusion

Train your mind in the above mentioned way and watch how much more interesting your life becomes. You will find yourself motivated even in the face of the toughest situations.

Soon you’ll be good. Then you’ll be great. And one day you’ll be world-class. And then, probably without even noticing, you’ll also be a millionaire.
